Create and publish assessments

Build an assessment with the three question types currently supported by the portal.

Create an assessment

  1. Open Students, select the Student, then open the Assessments tab.
  2. Click New Assessment.
Desktop Assessments are created inside a Student's Classroom.
  3. Enter the Title, choose the Subject, and add optional Instructions.
  4. Optionally set Available from, Due by, and Duration in minutes. Leave duration blank for an untimed Assessment.

Create a multiple-choice question

  1. Set Question type to Multiple choice.
  2. Set Points, enter the Question prompt, and enter at least two answer options.
Desktop Select the correct option, and use Add option or a remove icon to manage the choices.
  3. Select Mark option … as correct beside the one correct answer.
  4. Use Add option when the question needs more choices.

Create an open-ended question

  1. Set Question type to Open-ended.
  2. Set the points and enter the question prompt. The Student provides a free-form response that you grade manually.
  3. To add a file, click Attach Resource under Supporting Resource (optional) and choose a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, JPEG, or PNG file up to 5 MB.
  4. Save the Assessment as a draft if you want to continue editing. A saved attachment is labelled Attached to this draft.
Desktop Supporting Resources are available on open-ended questions and remain editable while the Assessment is a draft.
  5. Before publishing, click Replace Resource to choose a different file or Remove to clear the attachment.

Create a fill-in-the-blank question

  1. Set Question type to Fill in the blank.
  2. Enter the prompt, choose Text or Numeric answer matching, and add every accepted answer.
Desktop For text answers, Ignore punctuation can make automatic marking less strict.

Add and order questions

  1. Click Add question for each additional question.
  2. Use the up and down controls to change the question order.
  3. Use the remove control to delete a question. At least one question must remain.

Save a draft and edit it later

  1. Click Save draft when the assessment is not ready for the Student.
  2. Return to the Classroom Assessments tab and open the draft.
Desktop A draft reopens in the Assessment builder and remains editable.
  3. Use the draft's edit route to continue changing details, timing, questions, points, and answers.

Publish an assessment

  1. Review every question, correct answer, point value, instruction, and timing field.
  2. Click Publish. Publishing assigns the Assessment to the Student and locks the questions.
  3. On mobile, the Save draft and Publish controls stay visible near the bottom of the screen.
Mobile Scroll through the form while the final actions remain available.
